FAQs

Do I need to book the field in advance?

Yes. All visits must be booked in advance through our online booking system.

Booking ensures that you have exclusive use of the field for your allocated time, so you and your dog can enjoy your visit without another customer entering the field.

Please don't arrive and enter the field without a confirmed booking.

How long is each booking?

Each booking lasts for 30 minutes or 1 hour depending what you book.

Please make sure you have left the field and secured the gate before the end of your allocated session. This gives the next customer the opportunity to arrive and enjoy their booking without coming into contact with you or your dog.

Will we have the field to ourselves?

Yes. When you book the field, you have exclusive use during your allocated session.

You won't be expected to share the field with another customer or their dogs.

This makes the field particularly useful for dogs that need their own space, including nervous, reactive or easily distracted dogs.

How many dogs can I bring?

You can bring up to 8 dogs as part of a standard booking.

All dogs remain the responsibility of the person making the booking while using the field.

Can friends or family come with me?

Yes, you're welcome to enjoy the field together.

Children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

What happens if I'm late?

Your booking will still finish at the original scheduled time.

Unfortunately, we can't extend a session because of late arrival, as another customer may have booked the field immediately afterwards.

We recommend allowing plenty of time for your journey, particularly on your first visit.

What if the previous customer is still there when I arrive?

Please do not approach or enter the field while another customer or dog is still inside.

Remain with your dog securely in your vehicle or waiting area and allow the previous customer to leave safely.

If they remain beyond their booking time and this significantly affects your session, please contact us on 0161 484 5686.

This is particularly important because some of our visitors may be using the field specifically because their dog needs distance from other dogs or people.

Is the dog field fully enclosed?

Yes. Our field has been designed to provide dogs with a secure environment where they can exercise and explore off lead.

The field is enclosed with approximately 1.9m high galvanised steel fencing around the perimeter.

However, no outdoor enclosure can be guaranteed to contain every dog. Owners know their dogs best, so we ask you to consider the height and construction of our fencing before allowing your dog off lead.

How high is the fencing?

Our fencing is 1.9m high.

If your dog is an exceptional jumper, climber or escape artist, please consider whether this will be suitable before booking.

If you're unsure, you're very welcome to contact us before your first visit.

Is the entrance secure?

Yes. The entrance field gate is secured with a locking chain to help make entering and leaving as safe as possible.

Please ensure all gates are properly closed and secured before letting your dog off lead.

When leaving, please secure the gates behind you for the next customer.

Can my dog be off lead?

Yes - that's one of the main reasons we're here!

Once you're safely inside the secure field, have closed the entrance behind you and you're satisfied that the environment is suitable for your dog, they can be allowed off lead.

Your dog remains under your care and responsibility throughout your visit.

Is the field suitable for escape artists?

We've taken care to make the field as secure as reasonably possible, but every dog is different.

If your dog is known to jump particularly high, climb fencing, dig underneath fences or find ingenious ways of escaping, please review our fencing information carefully before visiting.

You're always welcome to contact us if you'd like more information before deciding whether the field is suitable.

Is the field suitable for reactive dogs?

Yes. Having exclusive use of the field can make it a great option for dogs that find normal parks or busy walking areas difficult.

Your booking means another customer won't be sharing the field with you.

However, there is occasional livestock in the adjacent field, that can be cattle or sheep.

If your dog is particularly sensitive to seeing or hearing other animals or people, please contact us and we'll be happy to explain the surroundings in more detail.

Will my dog meet other dogs?

You won't share your booked field with another customer's dog.

However, we can't guarantee that dogs won't occasionally be visible or audible outside the field.

For everyone's safety, please keep your dog securely contained until the previous customer has left.

My dog is nervous. Can we wait until the previous customer has gone?

Absolutely. In fact, we actively encourage this.

Please remain securely with your dog in your vehicle or waiting area until the previous customer and their dogs have left.

Never feel pressured to approach another dog while waiting for your booking.

Is there parking?

Yes, there is ample parking for three motor vehicles within the secured compound.

In addition to the secured spaces there is space for two vehicles which can be used whilst the other vehicles are vacating the field.

Parking is free.

Please park only in the designated area and avoid blocking gateways, neighbouring properties or access routes.

What happens when I arrive?

When you arrive:

Park in the designated parking area.
Check that the previous customer and their dogs have completely left.
Keep your dog secure while you prepare to enter.
Enter using the access instructions provided with your booking.
Close and secure all gates behind you.
Once safely inside, you can let your dog off lead and enjoy your session.

Please remember to leave enough time at the end of your booking to collect your belongings, pick up after your dog and leave the field before your session finishes.

How will I know how to find and access the field?

When you book, you will receive a confirmation by both email and text message. This includes the field address and your gate access code, along with instructions for finding and entering the field.

We recommend reading these instructions before setting off, particularly if it's your first visit.

However, owners should follow their vet's advice regarding vaccinations and when it is appropriate for their puppy to use outdoor spaces visited by other dogs.

Can children come to the field?

Yes, children are welcome when accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult.

Please remember that this is primarily an exercise environment for dogs. Children shouldn't climb on gates, fencing or dog equipment, and they must be supervised at all times.

Does my dog need to be vaccinated?

All dogs using the field need to be vaccinated and protected against parasites in accordance with veterinary advice.

Please don't bring a dog to the field if you know or suspect they have a contagious illness that could put other dogs at risk.

Are you open all year?

Yes, we are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Summer opening times are 8.00am to 7.00pm and Winter 8.00am to 4.00pm.

Opening times may change according to daylight hours, ground conditions, maintenance requirements or severe weather.

Does the field get muddy?

Yes, it can!

Our field is a natural outdoor environment, so during periods of prolonged or heavy rain, some areas may become wet, slippery or muddy.

We recommend wearing suitable footwear and bringing towels for muddy paws, particularly during autumn and winter.

What happens if it rains?

Normal rain doesn't usually stop play, so bookings will generally continue.

Please dress appropriately for the conditions and take extra care if the ground is wet or slippery.

If conditions become unsafe and we need to close the field, we will contact affected customers as soon as reasonably possible.

What happens during very hot weather?

Your dog's welfare should always come first.

Please consider the temperature and your individual dog's age, breed, health and tolerance of heat before exercising them.

Bring plenty of water, avoid strenuous exercise when conditions are unsuitable and never leave your dog unattended in a vehicle.

If we have to close the field because conditions are considered unsafe, we'll contact affected customers.

Can I reschedule my booking?

Yes, bookings can be rescheduled up to 12 hours before your session through our website. This may occasionally be reduced to 1 hour due to extreme heatwaves or heavy rainfall.

Changes are subject to availability.

What happens if I don't turn up?

If you don't attend your booking and haven't cancelled within the permitted cancellation period, unfortunately no refunds will be given.

What happens if you have to close the field?

Occasionally we may need to close because of severe weather, flooding, maintenance, damage to fencing or another unexpected safety issue.

If we cancel your booking, please re-schedule by visiting our website.

Do I need to pick up after my dog?

Yes, absolutely.

Please pick up after your dog throughout your visit and place securely tied bags in the designated bin.

Even in a large field, leaving dog waste behind creates a health risk and spoils the experience for the next customer.

Can I bring treats and toys?

Yes, you're welcome to bring your dog's favourite toys and treats.

Please take toys, packaging and any leftover food home with you when you leave.

If a toy breaks while you're using the field, please make sure all pieces are collected so they don't become a hazard to another dog.

Yes, if you're a professional dog walker and would like to use the field regularly, please contact us at info@romileysecuredogfield.co.uk.

Can I smoke or vape in the field?

We would prefer you not to smoke, but if you do, we request you dispose of your cigarette in the general waste bin provided.

Is the field wheelchair accessible?

Yes.

The field is a natural outdoor environment, and conditions can change following rain or prolonged bad weather.

If you have specific accessibility requirements, please contact us before booking. We'll be happy to provide as much information as possible so you can decide whether the site is suitable.

What should I do if I notice damaged fencing or a problem with the gate?

Please keep your dog secure and do not let them off lead if you discover anything that could affect the security of the field.

Contact us immediately on 0161 484 5686 and let us know what you've found.

We'd always rather know about a potential problem straight away so we can make the area safe.
